Environment Week 2024
In October 2024 we celebrated Te Wiki o Te Taio Environment Week - an opportunity to demonstrate the progress we are making in reaching our 2050 Restorative Development Goals.
Our goals involve initiatives and commitments to sustain and regenerate natural resources, support our people, our community and our environment. We seek environmental and social restoration and strive for a positive impact on the ecosystems, people and communities we work with.

This year's Environment Week highlighted how we're:
- supporting Fish Passage inside the Kaingaroa Forest Estate
- embracing the latest changes to the National Environmental Standards for Commercial Forestry (NES-CF)
- making progress on our fossil fuel elimination plan to create a positive carbon balance
- funding research to better understand and measure the rich biodiversity in Kaingaroa Forest
The Kaingaroa Forest Estate is remarkable for many reasons. No only is it where we undertake comprehensive commercial forestry operations, but it is also a place of cultural importance and connection, a place to bike and hike, a forest to hunt and gather, home to rare species and a vital carbon sink. The trees in the Kaingaroa Forest Estate absorb carbon dioxide, help maintain biodiversity, and provide various ecosystem services - contributing to a more sustainable and resilient planet.
By providing access to the forest, Timberlands supports the Central North Island region both economically and socially.
